I specialize in same-sex weddings but I’m happy to officiate at the ceremony of any couple. My life experience, work as a social worker, my curiosity, and sense of humor all serve me well in crafting a ceremony that reflects a couple’s unique story. I’ve climbed mountains, joined families barefoot on the beach and helped couples locate the perfect spot in their backyard to declare their commitment to each other.
I became a JP when the Highlands Inn, which my wife owned for 29 years, became a destination for couples around the country seeking marriage equality. Since leaving there in 2012, my constituency has broadened – now working with couples all over the state to who are looking for a simple meaningful ceremony that reflects their lives.
It has been a particular privilege to work with couples who have shared many seasons together, perhaps declaring their commitment in other ways before legal marriage was an option for them.
Your wedding is not the beginning of your story, it’s the start of a new chapter. You may wish to acknowledge a commitment to your children or somehow involve them or other people important to you in your ceremony. Perhaps there are people, because of time, distance, or circumstance cannot physically be at your wedding. I can help you decide how to reflect these and other aspects of your journey in your ceremony. I am also happy to weave a ritual, spiritual practice or cultural tradition or something you’ve seen at a wedding into the ceremony. My only interest is that your ceremony be exactly what you want it to be.
Our work together would start with a meeting, either in person, by phone or a video call. I’ll answer all your questions, learn a bit about you and what your hopes are for your ceremony. We will work together until your ceremony is exactly what you are hoping for. I am happy to be a resource as you plan your day, calm jitters and help weigh the options you’ll face as planning proceeds. I’ll coordinate your wedding rehearsal, if you have one – or work closely with your wedding coordinator or other point person.
I reside in southern NH but am pleased to travel throughout the state. Whether your ceremony will just involve the two of you or all your friends and family, I would be honored to help you make it a day to remember!

Maria helped us create a beautiful ceremony that was so -us-
She was friendly, helpful, and adapted to our needs. My family is loud/chaotic/a bit much, Maria jumped right in and helped keep us all in order for the rehearsal. We got through it (twice!) and the ceremony the next day went off without a hitch. Maria cares about what she does and many guests commented on how wonderful she was. I highly recommend her!!

From the first time we spoke with Maria on the phone she put us at ease. We met at her house for about an hour so she could find out a little about us and what we were looking for. My husband and I ran into some unforeseen circumstances that made us delay the wedding.
