Justice of the Peace: Mary Kay Rendock

Mary Kay Rendock

Justice of the Peace

I have been a Justice of the Peace since 2013 and have married more than 100 couples. I have married couples of many cultures and denominations and take pride in marrying same sex couples. I am willing to learn about your traditions and family values in order to make your wedding as joyful as possible! I have performed ceremonies at many statewide venues such as the Madison Beach Hotel, Anthony’s Ocean View, Bill Miller’s Castle, Saint Clements Castle, The Pond House, Hartford City Hall, Maneeley’s, The Nutmeg, The Goodwin Hotel and Crystal Peak as well as many others. I have also conducted ceremonies in many beautiful outdoor locations as well: Talcott Mountain, Elizabeth Park, Eastern Point Beach, Filley Park, and many backyards transformed into fairy tale scenes! I have done ceremonies on cliffsides, beaches and even on a deck in a 10 degree day in February. I have experience performing weddings in Connecticut, Massachusetts and Rhode Island and I am happy to travel to accommodate your wedding!

My Process

The 1st step in my process involves meeting a couple (in person or virtually) to introduce myself and get to know them. During this meetup, I go through a questionnaire/interview in order to present couples with the many opportunities and options available for civil ceremonies. I have experience with a variety of unity ceremonies that can be a wonderful additions to a wedding. I have performed the following; unity candles, treasure boxes, sand sculpting, family vows, ring warming, handfasting, and even learned how to perform the Saptapadi, a Hindu wedding ritual.

My Background

I became a JP in 2013 in order to become a part of an incredibly special moment between all people wishing to marry. Same sex couples were given the right to marry in 2008 and this was especially important, as my son came out as gay in 2010. I wanted to be able to provide this service to ALL couples, especially those in the LGBTQ community.

I am a lifelong resident of Windsor where my husband of 32 years and I have raised our 2 children, now 25 and 27. I have been a teacher in the Bloomfield Public Schools for 35 years and have coached softball, soccer and cheerleading. Teaching is my passion and I have dedicated myself to making sure all children have equal opportunity to excel and succeed. This lends itself to how I feel about being a Justice of the Peace. Once I was asked by a Best Man if I ever got tired of doing this and I replied, “This feeling never gets old, ” as we watched the beautiful bride and groom walk down the aisle as a married couple.

169 Towns Society

On December 1, 2019 I became the 107th person to officially run a race in every town in Connecticut, an accomplishment I am very proud of. Unfortunately, I am unable to run anymore, so I have set my sights on performing a wedding ceremony in ALL 169 towns in CT. So far I have checked 44 towns of my list! Will your wedding add town #45?

I am vaccinated and will take all necessary precautions to ensure a safe ceremony.

Mary Kay was determined to make our wedding ceremony picture perfect. She spent time with us before the wedding. She was very helpful picking out readings that would best fit our personalities and reflect our love for each other. We recommend Mary Kay to anyone looking for a JP because she is dedicated and will make your day unique.

-Jennifer and Diana

We had some unusual requests and lots of questions. Mary Kay was open to suggestions and full of ideas that made our wedding absolutely perfect! She is creative, flexible, and joyful. She married us on a cold December night outside on a very special bridge. It might not sound wonderful but it was and it was just what we wanted. Thank you, Mary Kay!

–Laurie and Al Miller

“Mary Kay not only hiked up Talcott Mountain to marry us, she tailored the vows to fit our mountain-top ceremony. She researched the history of the Heublein Tower and connected it the the story of how we met, which resulted in a meaningful ceremony for us and our families.”
