Legislative Activity
In 2019, the House of Representatives voted overwhelmingly in favor of HB360, which would raise the minimum age to marry to 18. The senate version of the bill, SB81, passed its Judiciary Committee unanimously. In 2020 the bill was before the full Senate (passed unanimously) before moving to the House where it also passed unanimously. On May 8, 2020 Governor Tom Wolf signed it into law, ending child marriage in Pennsylvania.
Testimony
JPus supports this legislation as it closed all loopholes and would protect the state’s youth from the harms of child marriage.
